Tatum Rebelle: Certified Pre- and Postnatal Fitness and Nutrition Expert and Owner of Total Mommy Fitness

Skilled coach and trainer, motivator, focused, dynamic, understanding, committed, enjoyable, nutritional wizard, serious about results, amazing with moms and kids, these are just a few ways clients describe Tatum Rebelle owner and creator of Total Mommy Fitness.

Tatum's desire to create Total Mommy Fitness began when she worked as a trainer for popular gyms. Repeatedly, she observed that most of the women stopped exercising once they got pregnant. With this information in hand, Tatum decided to deepen her expertise by studying pregnancy exercise. The latest research surprisingly disproved everything she had previously heard; not only can women stay physically active during pregnancy, but the benefits of doing so seemed endless. The excitement of this new information spurred her desire to share what she had learned with expecting mothers, to help them to continue their personal fitness throughout their pregnancy, and after. She also spoke with many women and learned that what prevented them from exercising was a fear that they might not know what they should be doing during pregnancy. Following birth, many women did not exercise because they were not comfortable bringing their baby to the gym, did not know what was safe for them to do, and felt overwhelmed.

Tatum built her business with a few key things in mind. 1) women want to be able to work out along with their new baby, often in the privacy of their home, 2) moms need to have realistic ways to squeeze fitness into various parts of their day without committing large chunks of time, 3) moms want to learn from experts who are knowledgeable about the realities of pregnancy and understand the nutritional aspects, and 4) the process needs to be fun, inspirational, and easily incorporated into their busy lives.

As Tatum points out, a woman is training for a marathon or sports event, she puts time into preparing her body with adequate training and proper nutrition. Pregnancy and childbirth is the most physically demanding thing that many women will ever do in their life. The healthier a woman can get before her pregnancy, the more fit she can remain during, and the faster she will bounce back after. Women thinking about becoming pregnant should approach pregnancy with a similar mindset of an athlete preparing for a competition.

Tatum's advice to women is to do something using your body everyday, even if it does not involve a structured daily gym routine. She teaches her clients that it is extremely important to incorporate fitness into their daily lives, to stay healthy and to set an example for their family. Her clients are given realistic plans that they can truly weave into their hectic lifestyle while still achieving results.

The driving force behind Tatum's passion for health and fitness stems from her lifelong fascination with the human body, its capabilities and resilience. Tatum has been testing her own body's limits and abilities from an early age, spanning from leisurely outdoor activities, to extreme sports and triathlons. This interest has led her to be one of the top fitness specialists in the US.

Originally from Scottsdale, AZ, Tatum's career in fitness began when she joined the Army at the age of 17. While serving for eight years, she consistently received the highest honors in physical fitness, eventually working her way up to a Drill Sergeant to lead other soldiers through Basic Training. Tatum became certified in personal training as well as in prenatal and postnatal fitness by the American Council on Exercise (ACE). Prior to starting Total Mommy Fitness, Tatum was a personal trainer for 24 Hour Fitness in Scottsdale as well as in Dallas and also worked with Fit for Life in Fort Worth. Tatum studied kinesiology and communication at Texas Christian University receiving a Bachelor of Science degree, and is currently pursuing an MBA.

When Tatum is not helping moms and families increase their personal fitness, you can find her somewhere outside. She loves to mountain bike, hike, run or kayak, often with her dogs alongside. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her siblings that she mentors from Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Tatum is also actively involved with the Mayor's Fitness Council in Austin, helping them in their effort to make Austin the fittest city in the nation by 2010.
